Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about FilesDesk — the AI file renaming and organizing app for Mac and Windows.

What is FilesDesk?

An AI-powered tool that renames files based on their actual content and organizes them automatically with rules — moving, tagging, and labeling so your folders stay clean without manual effort.

What file types are supported?
  • Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, SVG
  • Videos: MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WebM
  • Audio: MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A
  • Documents: PDF, DOCX, DOC, XLSX, XLS, ODS, PPTX, TXT, MD
Can I use my own naming templates?

Yes — 12 built-in templates cover common workflows, and you can build custom ones with AI-extracted fields plus tokens like {date}, {year}, {counter}, {original_name}, {date_taken}, and {gps_location}. See Template Examples.

Can FilesDesk organize files, not just rename them?

Yes — Organize Flows move or copy files into auto-created folders (with date placeholders), add prefixes, suffixes and timestamps, and on macOS add real Finder tags, color labels, and Spotlight-searchable comments.

Can it watch my Google Drive, iCloud, or OneDrive folder?

Yes — the Add Watch Folder dialog detects cloud drives synced to your machine and lets you pick any folder inside them. See Batch Processing & Watch Folders.

Can I undo a rename or a move?

Yes — every operation is logged in Processing History with one-click undo and redo.

Does renaming change my files’ contents or EXIF data?

No — only the name changes. Contents, EXIF, and embedded metadata are untouched.

What’s the difference between Self-Managed and Subscription?

Lifetime ($40 one-time): your own API keys or local AI; files can stay entirely on your device.

Subscription ($8–$20/mo): managed AI with monthly credits; zero setup.

How does device binding work?

Lifetime licenses bind to one device; support transfers them when you change computers.

What’s your refund policy?

Lifetime: 3-day money-back guarantee. Subscriptions: cancel anytime; credits stay usable through the cycle.

Who is FilesDesk for?

Accountants, lawyers, medical offices, real-estate agents, photographers, HR teams, e-commerce sellers, researchers — anyone who handles a steady stream of documents, scans, or photos and wants them named and filed automatically.
