Renaming Your First Files

Add files, pick a mode, preview, done — your first AI file rename takes under a minute.

What It Is

The basic FilesDesk workflow: you give it files, it reads their contents, and it shows you clean new names to approve before anything changes on disk.

How It Helps You

Step by Step

  1. 1

    Add files

Drag them in, click Add Files, or pick a whole folder. Photos, PDFs, invoices, receipts, contracts, screenshots, spreadsheets, audio and video can mix in one batch. On a Mac you can also right-click files in Finder → Rename with FilesDesk.

  2. 2

    Pick a mode

Smart lets the AI write a descriptive name; Template extracts exact fields (date, vendor, amount…) into a fixed pattern.

  3. 3

    Preview & apply

Review every suggestion, deselect any file, then click Rename. Name collisions get a numeric suffix instead of overwriting.

Renaming never changes a file’s contents — EXIF and embedded metadata stay untouched.
